When I was a young man, I believed the strongest and the bravest were those who could carry on under the most difficult of circumstances, and who sacrificed their sleep to care for others. This belief (and my determination) got me through medical school, residency, and decades in practice as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist. Years later, I came to understand the impact this would have on me, and the possibility that by being smarter, we could not only care for our patients at all hours but do better to preserve our own sleep.

Now, I relish the delicious feeling of a well-rested morning. I take care to get the light, sound, and especially the temperature just right for my nightly indulgence.

Sleep is health.
